PREMIUM Rwanda Coffee - Freshly Roasted Weekly
Since 1998, starting with only 48 members, Kopakama has focused on producing high-quality fully washed Arabica coffee, inspired by the shimmering waters of Lake Kivu. Farmers reinvest their profits from coffee sales into building their micro-washing stations.
“We see achievement as a force that connects the community.”
Kopakama now has over 600 members, using two washing stations (one full-sized and one micro-washing station) to professionally grow and process their coffee, employing trained professional cuppers. Typical plot sizes range from 0.5 to 2 hectares.
Kopakama’s farmers are committed to improving their local communities. So far, they have introduced gravity-fed water supply to serve the community and used Fair Trade premiums to acquire electricity. They have also purchased a meeting hall for the cooperative. Their vision is to collectively move towards more stable prices and coffee markets.
In early 2013, they took a significant step towards women’s coffee projects by purchasing fields for women to produce and sell coffee. It is called Kopakama Ejo Heza, meaning “A Better Tomorrow,” and is collectively owned by 244 women.
